1. What is PET
PET film, also known as high-temperature resistant polyester film, is composed of only three elements: C, H, and O. Due to its highly symmetrical molecular structure, it is called poly (ethylene terephthalate). PET material possesses many excellent properties, with outstanding optical performance, film-forming ability, and weather resistance. As a food-grade new polymer material, it contains no toxic substances or odors and can be directly used for food packaging. Items in our daily life like plastic wrap, beverage bottles, and baby milk bottles are all made from PET material. PET decorative film is made from PET material, does not release toxic or harmful gases during use, and is green and environmentally friendly. It also has advantages such as colorfastness, no discoloration, high-temperature resistance, aging resistance, wear resistance, and easy cleaning. It is commonly used for cabinet doors, wardrobe doors, and other door panels in high-end custom brands.
2. Advantages of PET Door Panels
PET door panels are safe, environmentally friendly, have excellent gloss, bright colors, no color difference, and are colorfast. Whether used alone or combined with other materials, they create a harmonious and unified home environment. PET is easy to clean; its surface does not generate static electricity during wiping and is not prone to dust accumulation. The cabinet door surface is scratch-resistant and wear-resistant, leaving minimal marks. Even with frequent sun exposure, the surface color remains unchanged and does not turn yellow.
PET door panels are divided into two categories: high-gloss panels and skin-feel matte panels. High-gloss panels have a smooth and flat surface with a certain mirror-like effect, giving a bright and magnificent feeling. The reflection of light can make the entire home environment more refreshing and cleaner. Skin-feel matte panels have a very comfortable texture, smooth like silk, warm like jade, with a delicate and silky feel similar to baby skin, giving the home a soft and elegant quality. They do not leave fingerprints or handprints and have extremely strong stain resistance.
3. Differences Between PET, UV, and Titanium-Ceramic Door Panels
These three types of panels are mostly designed for high-gloss smooth surface effects, though some also come in matte skin-feel finishes. Titanium-ceramic panels have absolutely no relation to titanium or ceramic; their material is also UV paint, and like marble panels, the name was coined by unscrupulous merchants to confuse customers. All are low-end UV panels. UV is a very thin layer of lacquer, and the base material of UV door panels is high-glue-density board, commonly called the toxic board, which is not suitable for home decoration as it continuously releases carcinogenic substances like formaldehyde and benzene. PET, on the other hand, is a material, a high-polymer film. The base material of genuine PET door panels is MDI environmentally friendly particle board. UV door panels are difficult to distinguish from PET in appearance, but you can test the surface with sharp objects like keys for scratch resistance. PET hardly leaves scratches, while UV door panels easily show scratches due to insufficient hardness. You can also use a marker to test the difference: marks on UV panels are difficult to erase and may even penetrate the lacquer, while PET wipes clean easily. In daily use, PET material has obvious advantages like colorfastness, no discoloration, pressure resistance, impact resistance, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, aging resistance, and easy cleaning. Over time, UV door panels gradually turn yellow and become brittle, while PET remains unchanged. Looking from the side, PET is about 0.5mm thick, while UV is only about 0.1mm, making it prone to edge chipping and peeling during use.
4. How to Identify Genuine vs Fake PET
Currently, there is no up-to-standard PET produced domestically in China; genuine PET is all imported, mainly from Japan's Toray and South Korea's LG, with South Korea's LG PET film being the highest quality, consistently leading the high-end door panel market. LG Hausys PET decorative film products are produced by LG hausys (Chinese name: Lotte Hausys) and are environmentally friendly materials with excellent anti-fingerprint, stain-resistant, wear-resistant, scratch-resistant properties and colorfastness. Due to their high price, many unscrupulous domestic merchants counterfeit LG's PET to make huge profits. Most use UV panels as imitations, while slightly better ones use South Korean ASA fake materials. allvs reminds consumers that fake PET is generally very cheap, will turn yellow and fade after a few years of use, and due to UV paint, will continuously release carcinogenic substances like formaldehyde and xylene. Before purchasing, be sure to require the merchant to display the authorization certificate and anti-counterfeit code, or include in the contract: 'All high-gloss door panels are LG Hyundai PET, ten times compensation for fakes!'
