Particle board

Particle board is actually particleboard. Raw wood is cleaned and peeled through large processing equipment, then cut into small wood pieces, followed by drying, horizontal and vertical arrangement, and high-temperature high-pressure pressing. Many carpenters will tell you: 'Look at this cut surface, this board is full of debris inside, it's very bad.'

But if you look, all major furniture brands in the board industry, all listed companies use particle board, including many imported furniture. If you spend tens of thousands buying furniture from Italy and saw it open, you might discover particle board inside.

So is particle board good? Actually particle board is very good. Enterprises that can produce particle board have production lines worth tens of millions or even hundreds of millions for high-end production lines, with very stable quality, excellent physical properties, and nail-holding power, plus guaranteed environmental protection. What does environmental protection depend on? It depends on the adhesive. Now large board factories use MDI non-formaldehyde glue, and environmental protection reaches E0 level and above.

Particle board brand recommendations: choose big brands, such as imported EGGER, Cleaf, Kronospan, Red Cotton, DAREGlobal, etc.

Eco board

If you have eco board in your hands, you can see that the inside of eco board is spliced solid wood strips, with stabilization layers on both sides. Eco board has a very good appearance, we can directly see the complete wood strips inside, so carpenters all say eco board is good, but basically all major furniture brands don't make eco board, why?

Because carpenters process directly on-site at home, using small cutting machines that can only cut eco board. If you use small cutting machines to cut particle board, it will chip at the edges, because particle board has high hardness and high density, small cutting machines cannot be used to cut particle board. So carpenters will say eco board is good and particle board is bad.

But major furniture brands operate in the national market and require stable quality. Eco board has a relatively large proportion of solid wood, which makes it prone to expansion and contraction with heat and cold, easily deforming and cracking, with many after-sales problems.

Here I will share another small knowledge point with you. The name 'eco board' is what the market calls it. If we look at the board names in national standards, there is no eco board, its name should becalledjoinery board, large core board.

Because the production process of eco board is relatively simple, production lines can be built for just a few hundred thousand, the market is quite chaotic with many small workshops. Most cannot be found online, and the adhesive used is urea-formaldehyde glue with serious formaldehyde exceeding standards.

OSB board

MDF (medium density fiberboard)

What is MDF board? MDF board is made by grinding wood chips, waste paper into powder or pulp, and then pressing them together under high temperature and high pressure. The hardness of MDF board can be adjusted - pressing it with higher density produces high-density board, lower density produces medium-density board, and then low-density board. The uses of MDF board are easy to understand - for example, when we need to carve a shape, pattern, or create a special style on cabinet doors, or to replace solid wood at a lower cost, we use MDF board.

MDF board requires a relatively large amount of glue, so environmentally speaking, there is a question mark - the risk of formaldehyde is quite high, so try to avoid using MDF board in home decoration.

Multilayer board

Finally, let's talk about multilayer board. Multilayer board is made by horizontally and vertically splicing multiple thin boards in an LVL structure. Multilayer board was first used in bathroom cabinets and other environments prone to moisture, because multilayer board has very good waterproof performance. However, its usage in furniture is very limited because if multilayer board is used over large areas, it tends to deform and bend.
